Four Young Lives Changed on a Mountain in Pachuca, Mexico

Nestled among the mountains of central Mexico, Pachuca is a city unlike any other. Colorful homes climb the hillsides, old buildings tell stories of generations past, and mountain peaks surround the city in every direction.

It was there that we spent a weekend we will never forget.

After arriving in Pachuca, Ruthie and I settled into a small Airbnb near the city center. The pace was slower than Mexico City, and the mountain air provided a welcome opportunity to rest after weeks of travel and ministry.

On Friday, we met with Brayan and two of his friends. We spent time encouraging them, talking about Jesus, and simply enjoying fellowship together. At the time, we had no idea what God was preparing for the next day.

Six Young People Come to Hear the Gospel

Saturday began with six young people gathering to hear the Gospel.

Because some were still learning and processing what they believed, we took our time. We slowly shared the message of Jesus using simple gestures and conversation.

Later that afternoon, we walked through the Gospel again using a PowerPoint presentation filled with pictures and illustrations.

Questions were asked.

Conversations deepened.

Hearts began to open.

As the afternoon continued, one young woman expressed her desire to be baptized.

There was only one problem.

There was not enough water nearby.

Several young women responded to the Gospel and desired to follow Jesus.

A Journey Up the Mountain

The solution required an unexpected adventure.

We boarded a small Volkswagen bus and traveled high into the mountains overlooking Pachuca.

There, hidden among the hills, was a small stream flowing down from above.

Brayan smiled as he shared a memory from his childhood. Years ago, people in the area would come there to wash their clothes. What had once been a place for ordinary daily life would now become the setting for something extraordinary.

The group traveled into the mountains to a small stream hidden among the rocks.

As we talked and prayed, another young woman expressed her desire to be baptized as well.

Then something remarkable began to happen.

One After Another

The first young woman experienced a powerful encounter with God. After prayer and ministry, she was baptized in the stream. She later shared that she felt the presence of God and the Holy Spirit moving powerfully in her life.

The second young woman stepped forward.

She too experienced freedom, was baptized, and testified to God's work in her life.

Then a third young woman expressed her desire to follow Jesus and be baptized.

One after another, lives were being transformed beside a small mountain stream.

But there was still one person watching closely.

A young man had witnessed everything.

He was moved by what he saw, yet he wanted to understand more. He wanted to fully grasp repentance and what it truly meant to follow Jesus before making his decision.

We encouraged him to continue seeking and asking questions.

A Late-Night Conversation

That evening, after returning to the house, Brayan spent time with the young man.

They talked.

They prayed.

They worked through questions about repentance, faith, and surrendering his life to Christ.

The conversation continued late into the evening.

By the time the night ended, he knew what he needed to do.

Back to the Mountain

The next morning, four of us made the journey back up the mountain.

The same stream.

The same mountains.

The same breathtaking view.

But this time it was for him.

We prayed together. He experienced freedom, was baptized in water, and received the Holy Spirit.

Standing there in the mountains of Pachuca, surrounded by God's creation, it was impossible not to be overwhelmed with gratitude.

What began as a simple weekend gathering had become something much more.

Four young people had responded to the Gospel.

Four lives had publicly committed themselves to Jesus.

And four stories are now being written that only God can finish.

Thank you for praying for Mexico and for everyone who helps make these trips possible.

Please continue praying for these young believers as they begin their journey of following Christ.

God is still changing lives—sometimes in churches, sometimes in homes, and sometimes beside a small mountain stream hidden high above a city.
